Background Information of Wonderland

Wonderland Playschool and Nursery located at Shankara colony, Chembur, established on 14th June 1998 with 4 Students on the first Day. It enrolled a dozen of students the same year. Now (2018) it has 4 divisions with 15 students each. It inspires curiosity, independence, self-discipline and a sense of responsibility among the toddlers. In a nurturing and play-based environment, Wonderland’s curriculum builds children’s self-esteem and problem solving skills, while fostering respect for themselves and others. Wonderland exists to provide a safe, developmentally appropriate environment for preschool and school age children

Wonderland is a safe, happy place where everyone is known and valued, and where needs are acknowledged, accepted and met. It provides a stimulating range of activities. All activities, play/work spaces and materials are developmentally appropriate and support active learning for children. Its high teacher-to-child ratio (1:10) supports personalized learning and development outcomes for children. It foster all aspects of children’s growth and development including, empathy and respect, independence, language, social and emotional development, self-esteem and confidence. It invests in its staff to provide the highest quality environment through extensive and on-going training and professional development. The wonderland volunteer parents, represents a wide variety of professional backgrounds and perspectives.

Wonderland’s Philosophy

Our goal is to provide a home-like environment which is especially important for those children encountering their first experience away from home. We offer small class sizes and ideal student to teacher ratios. This enables the teachers to have a powerful impact on each child's development by giving them the individual attention that is essential during their early years.

The teachers are experienced and knowledgeable about early childhood education. They work collaboratively with one another to support each other in providing an atmosphere that is safe and engaging for all children. They are selected because they represent the values and beliefs of Learn and Play Preschool. Each teacher believes in on-going and open communication with parents. This is provided through:

1) A monthly calendar
2) Assessments on every Monday
3) Daily highlights of the day’s events (What’s app) and School Diary
4) Moments of conversation at drop-off and pick-up times.
5) Parent Teacher meetings once in two months.
6) Guidance and counselling for parents and parenting sessions

The teachers provide a consistent schedule with a balance between teacher-directed and child-centred activities. By providing a setting which fosters self-esteem, builds confidence and is based on respect, it is our goal that the children will be empowered to take risks in their learning. Through guided discovery and hands-on learning, children will be involved in a fully integrated curriculum. The broad range of age appropriate activities will easily engage toddlers and pre-schoolers. The children will be introduced to multidisciplinary experiences including: children's literature, dramatic play, puppet shows, listening centre, arts & crafts, science discovery & nature, cooking, sensory activities, social skills development, music & singing, fine & large motor activities, computer and early math skills. In addition, the curriculum will be enriched by field trips and excursions.
